Fair Photo Mounting Directions

Please read the directions carefully, mismounted pictures are lowered one ribbon placing.

  1. Use white Matte Board. Please note that matte board is stronger than the usual poster board. Poster board will not hold up under county fair display conditions and will not be accepted at the state fair. Also, foam core board will not be accepted.
  2. Size: 11 x 12 1/2 inches. Matte board can be purchased from the Extension Office for $1.00.
  3. Mount photos 1 inch from the top of the board. Mount pictures an equal distance from each side of the matte board. Photos must be mounted across the narrow 11” dimension of the board.
  4. Use photograph spray adhesive. Do not use Elmer’s Glue or rubber cement. You can buy this type of spray at discount stores, or craft stores.
  5. Series: The larger print processing that is available will not work for the series category. You cannot get all the prints on one matte. Ask for the 3X5 size prints when printing photos for a series.
  6. There are to be no captions or borders on any photos.
  7. Please tape your entry card to the back side of the matte board. Tape the bottom (pink) copy, leaving the top 2 copies free so we can tear them off.
  8. Name slips for the front bottom of the mount can be obtained at the Extension Office. Please have them filled out and taped on before entering photos. Secure each end with masking tape.
  9. Put an “I” in upper right entry card corner on four (4) photos that you would like to talk to the judge about.
  10. Note that only 8 x 10 photos receiving purple ribbons are eligible for the state fair, and only members who are 9 years of age but not yet 19 years of age before January 1 of the current year are eligible to enter.
