Interview Judging at the Fair
Interview judging will be used in non-animal departments at the fair. This includes Foods, Food Preservation, Cake Decorating, Entomology, Fiber Arts, Forestry, Geology, Horticulture, Miscellaneous, Photography, Pets, Space Tech, Shooting Sports, Visual Arts (Arts/Crafts), and Wildlife.
This will allow the 4-Hers to learn from the judge why the exhibit was awarded the specific ribbon placing. Judges can find out from the 4-Her information such as age, years in project, special problems, and other helpful facts. 4-Hers are given the chance to tell the judge important facts about the project, and share successes and failures along the way.
PROCEDURE:
- 4-Hers sign up for a conference judging time when checking in exhibits. In Foods, Food Preservation, Cake Decorating, Photography, Pets, and Arts/Crafts 4-Hers are scheduled by club, not by individual.
- 4-Hers report to the department about 10-15 minutes before their scheduled time for the conference.
- During the conference, the 4-Her should visit with the judge about the exhibit(s).
NOTE: Parents and leaders may observe and listen, but not enter into the conference between the 4-Her and judge. They may ask questions when the judge is finished.
